Beginners’ safety training – unlicensed new members
Following acceptance of Membership and your Club Induction, you will be contacted by a member of our Training Team to organise for you to attend the New Member Training Program.
At your earliest opportunity, a certified Weapons Act Safety Course will need to be completed. This is a requirement of your future Category H licence application. While a course focussing on category H firearms is sufficient, many shooters choose to do an A/B/H course. Your Trainers will discuss this with you. Please also see our Safety Courses web page for further details.
What will I be doing? Depending on your experience level, the New Member Training Program begins with basic firearm handling and firing. During the program, you will get to try a few different types of handguns such as .177 Air Pistol, .22 semi-automatic pistol, .38 special revolver, and 9mm semi-automatic pistol. We will instruct you in the finer points of pistol shooting, such as stance, breathing, trigger control, etc. You will get a chance to try the different disciplines that are available at the Club once you complete the New Member Training Program.
What do I bring? You will need a set of ear muffs and safety glasses. You do not need to spend hundreds on a pair of electronic ear muffs, as a set from your local hardware is all you need. Just ensure they are rated high enough to protect your ears. Some may even consider ear plugs as well. You will also need to bring money to pay for ammunition that will be issued to you by a licenced shooter.
Licenced New Members will be assessed to confirm firearm safety and ability and will undertake lessons based on their level of shooting experience.
Club Induction is held at 12:00 noon on the first Saturday of each month
